After a trip to the movies on the Upper West Side, we decided to grab some dinner at Playa Betty’s. We had seen a little buzz about their “Churro Ice Cream Sandwich” online, and figured this would be the opportune time to check it out. The restaurant is very Cali, and it shows soon as you enter as you become surrounded by bamboo walls and surf boards. We started off our meal with the “TOT Chos” appetizer which was bomb AF (pictured below) and followed with the “Mexican Coke Shortribs” and “Carne Asada” tacos (devoured before picture could be taken). To wash it down, we picked the “Frozen Paloma” and “Tamarind Fizz” – both very tasty and complimented the meal. Now on to dessert, the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich. We are HUGE lovers of Churros, almost as much as air, or water – SO we were very excited to try this sandwich. It was medium sized and stuffed with vanilla ice cream with what tasted like a hint of orange flavor. The churro itself was kind of a let down, as it was more thin and crispy than that of a traditional churro which was what we expected. It wasn’t BAD, but wasn’t GREAT either. The tots and and tacos definitely saved this visit and we’d make a trip back to try some of the other specialities they offer, just maybe pass on the churro sandwich.
