SnowFace is a new ice cream and Japanese crêpes shop which recently opened on 42nd street. The location is small (seating about 10) and feels like it should be in the LES – but walking by and seeing shaved ice cream drew us in immediately.
Offering a wide variety of crêpes, we asked the woman behind the counter which she would recommend. She suggested the “New York Sirloin”, and we decided to also try the “Grilled Chicken”. The “New York Sirloin” was sliced New York sirloin with romaine lettuce, red onions, red peppers, string beans, boiled asparagus, julienned carrots, sesame seed, tofu sauce and teriyaki sauce. The “Grilled Chicken” included sliced chicken breast, spring mix, romaine lettuce, corn, red onions, grape tomato, julienned carrots, sesame seed, teriyaki sauce and tofu sauce. Both were fairly large and tasted really fresh with crêpes that were kind of crispy without losing the crêpes softness. The only complaint would be that the sauce was a bit too salty and settled to the bottom of the crêpe making a little bit of a soggy mess.
After our crêpes we ordered the “Green Garden” shaved iced special. It’s a green tea shaved cream topped with mochi, Oreos, peanuts, fruity pebbles, marshmallows, strawberries, peanut puree and chocolate syrup. It was AWESOME! The green tea was a great base flavor for the insane mix of toppings that were basically all of our favorite childhood treats. We suggest bringing a friend to share this with because this is one massive bowl!
The crêpes were OK but not as good as the shaved cream that we’ll definitely be back for. If you’re in the area, it’s worth checking out or even making the trip to Midtown since it’s just a short walk to the A,C, and E trains.
